Hikiniku to Come BGC: A Date Night Built Around Hamburg Steak

Hikiniku to Come in BGC is known for one thing: charcoal-grilled hamburg steak, served three ways. It is indoors, it runs ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head, and it works best as the middle of a three-stop night: the free ArtBGC murals before dinner, a hidden-door bar after.

The dish and the budget

A restaurant known for one dish makes the evening easy to plan. Both people are there for the same thing, the ordering is short, and the conversation gets back the ten minutes most dinners lose to the menu.

The night in order

Dinner is one stop, so give the evening a before and an after.

Before: the free walk. The ArtBGC murals run on two mapped routes of 10 and 12 works between Burgos Circle and Serendra. They are outdoors and free, and some pieces have been decommissioned. Walk the shorter route in the last of the light and arrive at dinner hungry.

Dinner. Hikiniku to Come, early, around 6pm. An early table is the simplest way to avoid a wait.

After: a hidden door. Two BGC speakeasies run the same ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head. Bank Bar is entered from behind a convenience store at the RCBC Savings Bank Corporate Center on 26th St, and it stays open until 1am. Other ways to end the night

After a hamburg steak dinner, the next stop can go three ways.

• A show: Brick Wall Comedy Club at Uptown Parade is the home base of Comedy Manila, with stand-up, open mics and trivia nights, ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head. It is indoors.
• A view: The Peak on floors 60 to 62 of the Grand Hyatt, billed as the country's highest rooftop bar. It runs late and costs ₱1,500 and up a head, so it roughly doubles the drinks budget.
• A short night: skip the bar and stroll High Street. It is free, and BGC is a walkable grid.

If it is full, shut or raining

Full or shut. Have one of these ready:

• Greenlight Burgers: smashburgers ordered through a stoplight system, under ₱500 a head. The closest thing to the same craving at a lower price.
• Los Tacos MNL: tacos made with Oaxacan technique, with a Michelin Bib Gourmand, ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head.
• Em Hà Nội: known for phở gà and nem rán, also with a Bib Gourmand, at the same price.

Raining. The restaurant is indoors, so dinner is safe. The mural walk is not. BGC's High Street spine is open-air and rain is the area's weak point, so skip the walk and go from dinner to The Back Room, which is inside a hotel with eight food and drink outlets. The malls (Uptown, Mitsukoshi, SM Aura, One Bonifacio) are the cover between stops.

Who it suits
