MOA Eye at Sunset: Planning a Golden Hour by the Bay
A MOA Eye sunset date is a golden-hour evening on the bay side of the complex: the Ferris wheel along Seaside Blvd, then the Seaside Blvd esplanade for the sunset itself and a drink with the bay panorama at C Lounge. The MOA Eye is an outdoor ride, so the plan is built to work whether or not it is running.
Check the wheel before you go
An outdoor ride can pause for wind, rain or maintenance, and a sunset date has one short window. Check the MOA Eye's own page on the day, or call, and find out four things:
- Is the wheel running today, and until what time?
- What is the current price per person?
- How long is one ride? The answer tells you when to join the queue.
- Does it stop in rain?
If the answers are good, the plan below runs as written. If not, skip to the fallback. The sunset does not need the wheel.
The golden hour, in order
Sunset moves through the year, so look up today's time, then count backwards.
- An hour before sunset: arrive. That leaves time for the queue.
- The wheel, while there is still light. Ride first and watch the sunset from the ground afterwards, so that a slow queue cannot cost you the main event.
- The esplanade for the sunset itself. The esplanade is an open walk along Seaside Blvd in the MOA Complex, and it is free. The sunset is the reason to go.
- Stay ten minutes after the sun has gone. The sky keeps changing after most people have left.
If the wheel is closed
MOA Sky is the way to get height without a ticket. It is a free rooftop park on SM MOA with viewing decks, a 1 km track and an amphitheater, opened on 25 February 2025. Start on the decks, then walk down to the esplanade for the last light.
If the weather has closed the wheel, it has probably spoiled the sunset too. Move indoors: Museo del Galeón, at Seaside Blvd corner Sunset Ave, has a full-scale 17th-century galleon to board. It is ticketed and indoors, so check its opening hours before you set off.
Dinner and a drink after
Three places at MOA have a bay view, at two very different prices.
Army Navy has burgers and burritos with a Manila Bay view and indoor and outdoor seating, at under ₱500 a head. It is the easy choice after a ride.
China Blue by Jereme Leung at the Conrad is Chinese fine dining with bay views and private rooms, on the Michelin Selected list, at ₱1,500 and up a head. Plan it ahead rather than walking in from the esplanade and hoping.
C Lounge, also at the Conrad, is a hotel bar with a bay panorama and live entertainment. It is open to midnight, and to 1 AM on Fridays and Saturdays, so there is no rush to get there.
What it costs
- Esplanade and rooftop park: free.
- Wheel: the ticket goes on top.
- Burgers with a view: under ₱500 a head.
- Fine dining with a view: ₱1,500 and up a head.
- One drink at the hotel bar: ₱1,500 and up a head.
The cheapest full version is the wheel, the free sunset and a burger. A typical MOA night runs about ₱700 to ₱1,500 a head.
More sunsets, and one that is live
Every sunset spot on this side of the bay, including the yacht-side esplanade in the CCP Complex, is compared in where to watch the Manila Bay sunset near MOA.
The planner covers Cubao now, and the Pasay Bay Area is next; see the areas page. Cubao's golden hour is on a hotel rooftop: The Edge Skyview Bar is a rooftop pool bar on Level 22 of ibis Styles with a deck for the skyline and the sunset, and it opens at 5:30 PM. The plan around it is in the Cubao rooftop sunset plan, and more evenings are in date ideas in Manila.
The planner covers Cubao now. Pasay Bay Area is next, and this post is written from the same kind of checked list.
