The Edge Skyview Bar: A Quezon City Rooftop Bar at Sunset

The rooftop bar to know in Quezon City is The Edge Skyview Bar, a pool bar on Level 22 of ibis Styles in Araneta City, with a deck for the skyline and the sunset. It opens at 5:30 PM, takes reservations and costs ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head, so the plan is simple: be there when it opens and have dinner afterwards.

Level 22, and how to get up there

The bar is on the roof of a 286-room hotel on Gen. Roxas Ave, built above the Gateway expansion. The hotel's rooftop pool is on the same level, which makes this a pool bar.

The hotel sits in the same cluster as the Gateway malls, about a 5-minute walk from Gen. Aguinaldo Ave and about 6 from the flower shops at Farmers.

The bar opens at 5:30 PM. Sunset moves through the year, so look up the day's time before leaving, and arrive at opening rather than at sunset. You pick the table, order, and the light does the rest.

Check the bar's page for tonight's closing time. An early visit is also the easy one, because dinner downstairs follows without a ride.

Booking

The bar takes reservations. The booking link is an Eatigo listing, and the hotel's own site is the other place to ask. When booking, say it is for sunset and ask what time the bar closes that night.

Expect ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head, so ask to see the menu if the night has a ceiling. The Edge Smash Burger is the menu item to look for.

Dinner downstairs

The neat version of the night never leaves the building.

Le Bistro is on the hotel's ground floor. It is a French restaurant with escargot, beef bourguignon and duck leg confit à l'orange as the dishes to order, at the same ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head, open from 10 AM to 10 PM daily. Rooftop at 5:30 PM, table at 7:30 PM, and the only travel is the lift. Bar and dinner are two stops at that range, so plan on roughly ₱2,000 to ₱6,000 for two across the night.

Two other dinners are close. Grace Park on the ground floor of Gateway Mall 2 serves Filipino farm-to-table cooking until 11 PM daily. World Kitchens on Level 4 of Gateway Mall 2 is a food hall of 15 show kitchens, open until 10 PM from Sunday to Thursday and 11 PM on Friday and Saturday.

If it rains

An outdoor rooftop has no plan B of its own. Decide on the day, and if the sky looks bad, reverse the night: dinner first at Le Bistro, then check the weather from the lobby.

If the roof is out, two indoor bars are nearby. The Whisky Bar is a whisky and highball bar inside the Level 4 food hall at Gateway Mall 2, with a Butter Beer highball and a Salted Caramel Pineapple highball.
