The Mind Museum Date: Hours, Tickets and an Early Dinner
The Mind Museum is a science museum with a planetarium at JY Campos Park on 3rd Ave in BGC, open Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 6pm. For a first date, go in at about 3pm, walk out at closing time, and have an early dinner only if both people want the afternoon to continue.
The museum at a glance
- What: a science museum with a planetarium.
- Where: JY Campos Park, 3rd Ave, BGC.
- Hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 9am to 6pm. Do not plan it for a Monday.
- Tickets: it is ticketed, and runs under ₱500 a head.
- Indoors: yes.
For the current ticket price, and whether the planetarium needs its own ticket or time slot, use the museum's own site.
Why it works for a first date
A first date goes better with something to do besides look at each other. A science museum supplies that for as long as it is needed: there is always another exhibit to walk to, and reacting to the same thing at the same time is an easy way to find out what someone is like.
It is also a daytime date. That lowers the stakes. Nobody has to dress for dinner, nobody is drinking, and both people can be home before dark if that is how it goes.
And it is indoors, which matters in BGC. The area's High Street spine is open-air and rain is its weak point, so a first date that does not depend on the sky is worth having.
Timing it around the 6pm close
Work backwards from the closing time.
- 3:00pm: meet at the entrance. Three hours is the most the day allows from here, and nobody is obliged to use all of it.
- Planetarium: pick its show time when buying tickets, and fit the rest of the visit around it.
- 5:45pm: start heading out. The museum closes at 6pm.
- 6:00pm: the decision point.
The decision point is the useful part. A closing museum ends the date for both people at the same moment, with no one having to say it. If it has gone well, "are you hungry?" is the easiest question in the world. If it has not, "that was fun, thank you" is a complete sentence.
If it's going well: dinner and a walk
A 6pm close leads straight into an early dinner. Three options, by price:
- Under ₱500 a head: Greenlight Burgers, smashburgers ordered through a stoplight system. Casual, quick, and no pressure.
- ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head: Em Hà Nội, known for phở gà and nem rán, with a Michelin Bib Gourmand.
- ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head: Los Tacos MNL, tacos made with Oaxacan technique, also with a Bib Gourmand.
Open the map link on the name while still inside the museum to see how far each is from 3rd Ave.
If it is going very well, add a walk. Between the museum and dinner, or after it, the ArtBGC murals are free. They run on two mapped routes of 10 and 12 works between Burgos Circle and Serendra, outdoors. Some pieces have been decommissioned. On a dry evening, the 10-work route adds a slow, free stretch to the date. The route notes are in the BGC murals walk.
What it costs
- Two museum tickets: under ₱1,000.
- Dinner, if it happens: under ₱1,000 for two at the burger place, or ₱1,000 to ₱3,000 at either Bib Gourmand.
- The walk: free.
So the date runs from two tickets and nothing else, up to about ₱4,000 with a sit-down dinner. Decide beforehand who is paying for what. Offering to buy the tickets and letting the other person pick up coffee or dinner is a comfortable split for a first meeting.
Other museum dates
The same shape works in other parts of the city. Makati's version is in a museum date with dinner after in Makati, and Cubao's is in an art museum date in Cubao. The reasoning behind short, public, easy-to-leave first dates is in first date ideas in Manila.
The planner covers Cubao now and BGC is next. See which areas are live.
