The Hidden-Door Hunter: Speakeasy Bars in Manila by Area

Cubao, BGC and Makati each have a speakeasy: INT.Bar behind a photobooth door in Cubao Expo, Bank Bar behind a convenience store in BGC, and The Blind Pig behind a door signed in Braille in Makati. In the Pasay Bay Area the nearest thing is a whisky bar, so this guide stops at three doors.

How the quiz picks a Hidden-Door Hunter

One answer is required: "The place nobody's posted yet" when asked whether to try a new place or a sure thing. "Something to do with our hands" (bowling, arcades, a mic) never leads here. For the rest, the pace decides how much else has to line up:

  • "Slow and easy" works with any room, and with either "Something to see or hear" or "Good food and a long talk".
  • "Somewhere in the middle" works with "A corner table for two" and either of those two answers. In a room with other people it is a Main Character after "Something to see or hear" and a Food Tripper after "Good food and a long talk".
  • "Out out" works only with the corner table and "Good food and a long talk". With "Something to see or hear" it is a Gig Rat.

The Hidden-Door Hunter page describes the night as a bar behind a door that is not a door, and a dish you can't get elsewhere. It sits with ten others on the archetypes page.

How to find each door

Cubao: the photobooth. INT.Bar is inside Cubao Expo on Gen. Romulo Ave, and the way in is a photobooth door. The cocktails are named after films, Tuesdays are movie nights and weekends bring DJ sets. It takes reservations and costs under ₱500 a head. By day the same space is EXT.Cafe; the pair is listed as open daily from 9 AM to 12:30 AM, so ask when the bar side opens.

BGC: the convenience store. Bank Bar is at the RCBC Savings Bank Corporate Center on 26th St. The entrance is from behind a convenience store, and it is open until 1 AM. Expect ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head.

BGC: the hotel. The Back Room is a 1920s-style gin speakeasy inside Shangri-La The Fort, named in Tatler's Best Bars 2026.

Makati: the Braille sign. The Blind Pig is at Windsor Tower, 163 Legazpi St. It is billed as Manila's first speakeasy, and the sign on the door is in Braille.

Makati: the red door. Fat Cat and Big Fuzz are paired cocktail bars on Amorsolo in Legazpi. Big Fuzz is behind a red door on the second floor of Creekside Mall. The pair is noted in Tatler's Best Bars 2026.

Pasay Bay Area: a whisky room. The Whisky Library on the second floor of the Grand Wing at Newport World Resorts has more than 240 whiskies. It is the Pasay Bay Area's specialist bar.

A Cubao night that ends at the photobooth

This route stays inside Cubao Expo the whole way.

  1. 6:00 PM: Pablo Galleries, which shows contemporary Filipino art. It closes at 7 PM and is shut on Sundays and Mondays, which is why it goes first.
  2. 6:30 PM: John's Antique Shop for old komiks, typewriters and radios. It also closes at 7 PM.
  3. 6:45 PM: dinner at Best of Luck, Hong Kong-style Chinese plates and cocktails over two floors of two-seat tables, under ₱500 a head. Start with the Pork & Shrimp Siomai (₱168 in 2024). It is closed on Mondays.
  4. 8:05 PM: a photo at the convex mirror by the entrance.
  5. 8:20 PM: INT.Bar.

Go from Tuesday to Saturday so that the gallery, the kitchen and the bar are all open. On a Tuesday the bar has its movie night; on a weekend, the DJ sets.

Other rooms a Hunter would like in Cubao

A hidden door is one kind of find. Cubao has a few rooms that sit inside other rooms.

  • Good Vibrations Records is a vinyl shop with a listening room and a small bar, open from 1 PM to 10:30 PM, Tuesday to Sunday.
  • World Cellar is a wine room inside the World Kitchens food hall on Level 4 of Gateway Mall 2, opened in January 2026. The Whisky Bar is in the same hall, with a Butter Beer highball on the menu. Check both bars' own pages for hours.
  • MŌDAN is a 12-seat room on 20th Ave serving a modern Japanese tasting menu, a short ride from Araneta City. It seats at 5:30 PM and 8:30 PM from Wednesday to Sunday, and a reservation is required. Expect ₱1,500 and up a head.

Where to go after the first door

In Poblacion, two cocktail bars reward the same instinct without hiding. The Spirits Library at 4963 Guerrero is a cocktail bar with vintage bottles, No. 98 on the Asia's Best Bars 2026 extended list. Run Rabbit Run at 4991 P. Guanzon is in a converted house.

The night-out planner covers Cubao now, with BGC, Makati and the Pasay Bay Area to follow. For one door at a time, read the guides to the bar behind the photobooth, the two BGC speakeasies and Makati's hidden bars. The rest of the area is in the Cubao date night guide.
