The instagrammable places in Manila that fit into a night out are a short list: a rooftop pool deck and a convex mirror in Cubao, a canal with gondolas near BGC, a rooftop wine bar in Poblacion and the Manila Bay sunset at MOA. For a Main Character, the move is to hang each one on a proper dinner, so the photos come with a night attached.

How the quiz picks a Main Character

The usual route has three answers: "Somewhere in the middle" for the pace, "Something to see or hear" for what makes a good night, and a room with other people in it, "A warm room with some noise" or "The loud table everyone wants to join". The second question can be anything. The corner table for two makes a Kilig Classic or a Hidden-Door Hunter instead. There is one other route: "Out out" with "The sure thing", "Good food and a long talk" and the warm room. "Out out" with "Something to see or hear" is a Gig Rat, "Slow and easy" never leads here, and the drinks answer never changes the result.

A Cubao night in four frames

This plan runs sunset first, because the light does not wait and everything else does.

5:30 PM, the rooftop. The Edge Skyview Bar is a rooftop pool bar on Level 22 of ibis Styles, with a deck for the skyline and the sunset. It opens at 5:30 PM, which is when to arrive. It takes reservations and costs ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head.

7:00 PM, the proper dinner. Le Bistro is the French restaurant on the hotel's ground floor, open from 10 AM to 10 PM daily. Order the escargot, the beef bourguignon or the duck leg confit à l'orange. Same price range as the bar.

8:30 PM, the ceiling. Quantum Skyview is an atrium under an LED ceiling on Upper Ground B of Gateway Mall 2, free to walk into. It keeps mall hours: 9 PM from Monday to Thursday and on Sunday, 10 PM on Friday and Saturday. On a weeknight, go before dinner instead.

9:00 PM, the mirror and the door. Cubao Expo is about a 12-minute walk from Gateway Mall. The convex mirror by the entrance is where groups line up for a mirror selfie, and it is there until the compound closes at midnight. Then end at INT.Bar, the speakeasy behind a photobooth door, where the cocktails are named after films.

Two extras by day. Art in Island is an interactive museum built around 3D art and projections, a short ride away, open until 6:30 PM from Tuesday to Friday and 7:30 PM on weekends, closed on Mondays. And Farmers Garden sells bouquets 24 hours a day, if the photo needs flowers in it.

If it rains

The rooftop is outdoors. Swap it for World Cellar, a wine room inside World Kitchens with space for up to 4,000 bottles (check its own page for tonight's hours), or for Wolfgang's Premiere Lounge, a dine-in cinema with La-Z-Boy recliners and a ticket that includes a burger or sandwich, ₱990 in 2025. Pick the film time first. The atrium and the photobooth door are both indoors. The mirror is not.

BGC. The Venice Grand Canal gondola runs along a canal with a Venetian backdrop at McKinley Hill, a short ride from the BGC core. The ArtBGC murals are free and mapped on two routes of 10 and 12 works between Burgos Circle and Serendra, though some pieces have been decommissioned. For the view, The Peak is a rooftop bar on floors 60 to 62 of the Grand Hyatt, billed as the country's highest, at ₱1,500 and up a head. Medusa at The Palace is a theatrical dining lounge in Uptown.

Makati. Dr. Wine Rooftop in Poblacion is an open-air rooftop for wine and sangria that runs to 1 AM or 2 AM. In the business district, The Blind Pig has a Braille sign on its door, and Ayala Triangle Gardens has a lights show every December.

Pasay Bay Area. Sunset is the subject here. Watch it from the esplanade on Seaside Blvd or from MOA Sky, the free rooftop park at SM MOA that opened in February 2025. After dark, The Fountain at Okada Manila in Parañaque runs a free water show every 30 minutes from 7 PM, to midnight from Friday to Sunday. Museo del Galeón has a full-scale 17th-century galleon to board.
