Date Night Manila Open the planner

A Rainy-Night Cubao Date That Never Leaves Gateway Mall 2

On a rainy night, a whole date fits inside Gateway Mall 2: a photo under the LED ceiling at Quantum Skyview, dinner at World Kitchens on Level 4, dessert a few floors down, and bowling at Paeng's Gateway Bowl on Level 3, which stays open until midnight. Every stop is indoors, and the order below is set by which counters close first.

6:00 PM: meet under the LED ceiling

Quantum Skyview is an atrium under an LED ceiling on Upper Ground B. It is free, it keeps mall hours, and it is the easiest meeting point in the building to describe in a text message. Take the photo now, while both of you are still dry and nobody has eaten.

6:15 PM: dinner on Level 4

World Kitchens is a food hall of 15 show kitchens, with dishes such as cochinillo, gambas al ajillo and unagi hitsumabushi. Expect ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head.

Its hours shape the plan. From Monday to Thursday it closes between 3 PM and 5:30 PM, then serves until 10 PM. On Fridays and Saturdays it runs straight through from 10:30 AM to 11 PM, and on Sundays from 11 AM to 10 PM. A 6:15 PM start works on any day.

Two bars are inside the hall for a drink with dinner or straight after it. The Whisky Bar pours whisky and highballs, including a Butter Beer and a Salted Caramel Pineapple. World Cellar is a wine room with space for up to 4,000 bottles.

If the food hall is not the mood, two alternatives downstairs:

  • Grace Park, ground floor: Filipino farm-to-table cooking, open until 11 PM daily.
  • Palenque, Upper Ground B: a regional Filipino food hall where you walk in with no booking.

7:45 PM: dessert before the counters close

This is the step that is easy to get wrong. From Sunday to Thursday the mall closes at 9 PM, and the dessert counters close with it. Bowl first and dessert is gone.

So go down before going back up. On Upper Ground B, Caramia Cakes & Gelato has cakes and gelato for under ₱500 a head, and Puffy's Souffle Pancake Cafe is the dessert café for soufflé pancakes. On the ground floor, the Che Buono gelato counter is a ten-minute stop. On Upper Ground A, llao llao has frozen yogurt.

On a Friday or Saturday the mall runs until 10 PM, so dessert and bowling can swap places.

8:30 PM: bowling until late

Paeng's Gateway Bowl is on Level 3, with 24 lanes and six billiard tables, and it is open from 10 AM to midnight daily. It is the reason this plan works on a weeknight: when the mall's shops and counters close at 9 PM, the lanes have three hours left.

It costs under ₱500 a head and it is loud. That is no bad thing three stops into a date, when the talking has been done over dinner and something to laugh at is welcome. Allow about 75 minutes here. Billiards is the option if neither of you wants to bowl.

Timezone Gateway 2 is on the same level, with arcade games, short-lane bowling, private karaoke rooms, photo booths and VR. It keeps mall hours, so on a weeknight it only fits if it replaces dessert or comes before dinner.

Swap bowling for a film

Level 4 also has two cinemas, and either can take the place of the lanes.

Wolfgang's Premiere Lounge is a dine-in cinema with La-Z-Boy recliners where the meal is part of the ticket: Ticket with a burger or sandwich (₱990 in 2025). Choose it and dinner is covered, so the evening becomes the photo, dessert and the film. Gateway Cineplex 18 is the regular 18-screen cinema with recliner seats and Dolby Atmos.

Check the screening schedule before leaving home, and remember that a film ending after 9 PM on a weeknight lets out into a closed mall, with the bowling alley and Grace Park as the two things still open.

What this plan leaves out

Two Gateway stops are left out on purpose because they are outdoors: the roof garden on Level 5 and the rooftop bar at the hotel above the mall's expansion. Save both for a dry night.

The plan also stops at the mall doors, so sort out the trip home before the last frame, not after.

For the film version in full, with a costed total, read the Gateway cinema date. The Level 4 food hall and its two bars are covered in dinner, wine and whisky on one floor. Indoor plans for the other areas are in rainy season dates in Manila, and the night-out planner covers the dry-weather version of Cubao in the Cubao date night guide.
