Rainy Season Dates: Indoor Activities in Manila, Area by Area
For indoor activities in Manila that add up to a date, the simplest plan is in Cubao: bowling at Paeng's Gateway Bowl, dinner at World Kitchens one level up and dessert downstairs, all inside Gateway Mall 2. The other areas each have a covered plan too, and they are listed here from the most rain-proof to the least.
How the areas rank in the rain
- Cubao and the Pasay Bay Area are the best bets. Almost everything in the Pasay Bay Area is indoors, though it is a ride between its complexes. Cubao goes first below because the whole plan fits in one building.
- Makati's business district is strong around Greenbelt, where covered walkways link the malls, and moderate in the villages.
- BGC is in the middle. High Street is open-air, and the malls and hotel bars are the cover.
- Poblacion is last. Every venue is indoors, but getting from one to the next is not.
Everything named below is indoors unless it says otherwise.
Cubao: one mall, three floors
5:30 PM, Level 3. Paeng's Gateway Bowl has 24 lanes and six billiard tables and costs under ₱500 a head. Allow about 75 minutes. Timezone Gateway 2 on the same level has arcade games, short-lane bowling and private karaoke rooms, if bowling is not the mood.
7:00 PM, Level 4. World Kitchens is a food hall of 15 show kitchens at ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head, open until 10 PM from Sunday to Thursday and 11 PM on Friday and Saturday. From Monday to Thursday it is closed between 3 PM and 5:30 PM. The Whisky Bar is inside the hall, with a Butter Beer highball on the menu; check its own page for hours.
8:30 PM, the lower floors. Puffy's Souffle Pancake Cafe and Caramia Cakes & Gelato are on Upper Ground B, the same level as Quantum Skyview, an atrium under an LED ceiling that is free and good for a photo. These keep mall hours: 9 PM from Monday to Thursday and on Sunday, 10 PM on Friday and Saturday. On a weeknight, have dessert before dinner or skip it.
If the rain has not stopped. The bowling alley is open until midnight daily, so go back up.
Bowling at under ₱500 a head, dinner at ₱500 to ₱1,500 and a gelato at under ₱500 top out at ₱2,500 a head. The pancake café costs ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head, a step up from the gelato.
A slower version swaps bowling for a film. Wolfgang's Premiere Lounge on Level 4 is a dine-in cinema with La-Z-Boy recliners, and the ticket includes a burger or sandwich: ₱990 in 2025. Gateway Cineplex 18 has 18 screens on the same level. Check the schedule for both before choosing a dinner time.
Pasay Bay Area: one complex per night
Choose one complex and stay in it, because moving between them means a ride.
Newport, for a show. Newport Performing Arts Theater has shows on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM and Sundays at 3 PM. Before it, Gordon Ramsay Bar & Grill is known for beef Wellington. After it, The Whisky Library on the second floor of the Grand Wing has more than 240 whiskies. Expect ₱1,500 and up a head at all three.
MOA, for less. Museo del Galeón has a full-scale 17th-century galleon to board, indoors and ticketed, at ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head. Then eat inside SM MOA at The Aristocrat or Café Adriatico, with coffee at Bo's Coffee.
Skip the sunset spots and the fountain show on a wet night. They are outdoors.
Makati: stay around Greenbelt
Start with coffee at Omotesando Koffee in Greenbelt 2. See a film at the Greenbelt 3 cinemas, six screens including 4DX and A-Luxe that reopened in December 2025. A second-level walkway links Greenbelt 2 to 4. Dinner is People's Palace, a Thai restaurant near Greenbelt Park with a vegetarian menu.
By day, Ayala Museum is open from 9 AM to 6 PM, Tuesday to Sunday.
BGC and Poblacion: one room each
BGC by day. The Mind Museum is a science museum with a planetarium, open from 9 AM to 6 PM, Tuesday to Sunday, at under ₱500 a head.
BGC at night. Choose a hotel bar or Uptown. The Back Room is a 1920s-style gin speakeasy inside Shangri-La The Fort. In Uptown, Medusa at The Palace is a theatrical dining lounge and Brick Wall Comedy Club has stand-up, open mics and trivia nights. Bring an umbrella if you move between those two.
Poblacion. Do not crawl. Pick dinner at La Pita or Super Uncle Claypot, both ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head, then take a car to one bar and stay. The Spirits Library at 4963 Guerrero is a cocktail bar with vintage bottles, and OTO at 5883 Enriquez is a listening bar open until 1 AM.
Plan the Cubao one tonight
The night-out planner covers Cubao now and has a rain option that keeps the plan indoors; the other areas are next.
For a longer version of the mall plan, read a rainy-night Cubao date that never leaves Gateway and dinner and a recliner movie at Gateway. In Makati, there is the rain-proof cinema evening at Greenbelt, and in BGC, a date at the science museum. For drier nights, see date ideas in Manila.
Questions
- What are good indoor activities in Manila for a date when it rains?
- In Cubao, bowling at Paeng's Gateway Bowl, the arcade at Timezone Gateway 2 and the dine-in cinema at Wolfgang's Premiere Lounge are all inside Gateway Mall 2. By day, The Mind Museum and Ayala Museum are both open from 9 AM to 6 PM, Tuesday to Sunday.
- Which part of Metro Manila is the most rain-proof for a night out?
- The Pasay Bay Area, because almost everything there is indoors, with Cubao close behind. Poblacion comes last: the venues are indoors, but the walk between them is not.
- Is BGC a good idea on a rainy night?
- It can be, with one stop. High Street is open-air, so the cover is the malls and the hotel bars. The Back Room is inside a hotel, and Brick Wall Comedy Club is indoors at Uptown Parade.
- Does the planner have a rain option?
- Yes. The planner has a Rain plan switch that keeps a night to indoor places only. In Cubao that can mean Wolfgang's Premiere Lounge, a photo at Quantum Skyview, then dinner at Le Bistro.
