Greenbelt Cinema Date: A Rain-Proof Makati Evening
The Greenbelt cinema is open again: Greenbelt 3 cinemas reopened on 17 December 2025 with six screens, including 4DX and A-Luxe. Greenbelt 2, 3 and 4 connect by a second-level walkway, so coffee, a film and the walk between them stay under cover, which makes this the Makati date to pick when the forecast is bad.
What is open and what is not
Older guides are out of date on Greenbelt, so it is worth being exact.
- The cinemas at Greenbelt 3 have been open since 17 December 2025.
- Greenbelt 2 reopened in July 2026. Omotesando Koffee, a Tokyo coffee brand, has a branch there.
- Greenbelt 1 is gone. It was demolished, and a new complex is due in 2028. Anything a search result places there needs a second look.
Greenbelt is the driest corner of the business district, thanks to those covered walkways. The villages around it are only moderately rain-proof.
The evening in order
- Coffee, an hour before the film. Meet at Omotesando Koffee in Greenbelt 2, at under ₱500 a head.
- Cross to Greenbelt 3 on the second level. The walkway links Greenbelt 2, 3 and 4. Stay on that level and the weather does not come into it.
- The film. Six screens at Greenbelt 3 cinemas, with 4DX and A-Luxe among them, at ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head. Book seats through the cinema's own listing before leaving home, because a sold-out screening on a rainy Friday is the one way this plan fails.
- Dinner. People's Palace is a Thai restaurant with a vegetarian menu, Michelin Selected, at ₱1,500 and up a head. It sits near Greenbelt Park, so carry an umbrella for that last stretch.
Dinner before or after the film
Kitchens in the business district close at 10 to 11pm. That decides the order.
If the film ends by 9pm, eat after it. Dinner is better when there is a film to talk about.
If the screening starts at 8pm or later, eat first. Have dinner at People's Palace at 6pm, take coffee as a dessert-hour stop at Omotesando Koffee, and make the film the last thing of the night. Nobody should be reading a menu at 10:45pm while the staff stack chairs.
If the screening is sold out
Every fallback here is indoors.
Before 6pm: Ayala Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 6pm, with pre-colonial gold and dioramas. It is at Makati Ave corner Dela Rosa, ticketed, and costs under ₱500 a head. It works as a late-afternoon swap for the film, not an evening one.
After dinner: The Blind Pig at Windsor Tower, 163 Legazpi St, is billed as Manila's first speakeasy and has a Braille sign on its door. It is indoors and runs late. On a wet night, take a ride rather than walking.
A different dinner: Manam at the Triangle at the Ayala Triangle serves Filipino comfort food with twists and holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand, at ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head. Take a ride there too.
What the evening costs
Per person:
- Coffee: under ₱500
- Film: ₱500 to ₱1,500
- Dinner: ₱1,500 and up
That puts the full evening at about ₱2,000 a head or more, inside the ₱1,200 to ₱3,500 a business-district night usually costs. To bring it down, keep the coffee and the film and swap dinner for the mid-range table at Manam at the Triangle.
Why this works in the rain
Poblacion is the opposite case: its venues are indoors but every walk between them is exposed. Greenbelt keeps the connecting parts dry too. On a wet night, that difference matters more than which area has the better bars.
Rainy-night plans for the other areas are in rainy season dates in Manila. The Cubao equivalents are a cinema date at Gateway and a rainy night that never leaves one mall. More Makati evenings, wet and dry, are in six Makati date ideas.
The night-out planner covers Cubao now, and Makati is next. The areas page shows what is live.
The planner covers Cubao now. Makati is next, and this post is written from the same kind of checked list.
