Payday Date Ideas: Where a Little Extra Goes Furthest

The payday date ideas that stretch furthest add one upgrade to a night you would have had anyway: a dine-in cinema seat in Cubao, a gondola ride near BGC, a named cocktail bar in Poblacion or a hotel-bar drink over Manila Bay. Each moves a single stop up one price tier, so the 15th or the 30th feels different without the envelope being empty by the 20th.

The rule: upgrade one stop

Stops sort into three price tiers per person: under ₱500, ₱500 to ₱1,500, and ₱1,500 and up. A payday date keeps the usual night and lifts one stop by one tier.

One upgraded stop is noticed. Three upgraded stops are a different, more expensive night that happens to fall on a payday.

Cubao

The usual night. Best of Luck costs under ₱500 a head, with Hong Kong-style Chinese plates over two floors of two-seat tables. Try the Pork & Shrimp Siomai (₱168 in 2024). It is closed on Mondays and open until midnight the rest of the week, so go in the evening.

The upgrade. Wolfgang's Premiere Lounge is a dine-in cinema with La-Z-Boy recliners, and the ticket includes a burger or sandwich: Ticket with a burger or sandwich (₱990 in 2025). Dinner and the film are one purchase. Check the schedule before promising a title.

Or a view. The Edge Skyview Bar is a rooftop pool bar on Level 22 of ibis Styles with a deck for the skyline and the sunset, at ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head. It opens at 5:30 PM and takes reservations.

The small extra. A bouquet from Farmers Garden costs under ₱500, and the flower shops are open 24 hours.

BGC

The usual night. BGC typically runs ₱1,200 to ₱3,000 a head, with a budget tier at ₱250 to ₱400. Greenlight Burgers, with smashburgers ordered through a stoplight system, costs under ₱500 a head, and the ArtBGC mural routes are free.

The upgrade. A gondola ride at Venice Grand Canal was ₱500 a person in 2023 to 2024; expect a little more now. It is at McKinley Hill, a short ride from the BGC core and not walkable, and it is outdoors, so it needs a dry evening.

Or a hidden door. The Back Room is a 1920s-style gin speakeasy inside Shangri-La The Fort, named in Tatler Best Bars 2026, at ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head. One drink there after a burger dinner is the same idea in a glass.

Makati

The usual night. Aida's Chicken serves Bacolod-style grilled chicken in a shopping-centre basement, is on the Michelin Selected list, and costs under ₱500 a head. Look up which mall before setting out.

The upgrade. The Spirits Library is a cocktail bar with vintage bottles at 4963 Guerrero in Poblacion, No. 98 on the Asia's Best Bars 2026 extended list. It costs ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head, and Poblacion cocktails run ₱300 to ₱555. Two rounds at a listed bar is a payday-sized treat.

Or go higher. Dr. Wine Rooftop is an open-air rooftop in Poblacion for wine and sangria, running to 1 AM or 2 AM, at ₱1,500 and up a head.

Pasay Bay Area

The usual night. Dinner inside SM MOA at ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head: The Aristocrat for chicken barbecue and java rice, or Café Adriatico for adobo rice and palabok. A typical MOA night runs about ₱700 to ₱1,500 a head.

The upgrade. One drink at C Lounge, the hotel bar at the Conrad with a bay panorama and live entertainment, at ₱1,500 and up a head. It is open to midnight, and to 1 AM on Fridays and Saturdays, so a payday that lands on a weekend gets an extra hour.

The free add. The fountain show at Okada Manila costs nothing and runs every 30 minutes from 7 PM, to midnight from Friday to Sunday. Okada is in Entertainment City, Parañaque, a ride from MOA.

Pick by what is left over, then book

Two upgrades come with a price to go by.
