Romantic Restaurants in Makati for an Anniversary

For an anniversary, the romantic restaurants in Makati at the splurge level come down to five at ₱1,500 a head and up: two starred rooms, Helm with two Michelin stars and Kása Palma with one, and three more tables at Blackbird, Pablo Bistro and People's Palace. The one exact price is the tasting menus at Kása Palma, which run ₱6,500 to ₱8,500.

The two starred rooms

Helm holds two Michelin stars and serves seasonal set menus and has the most Michelin stars of the five.

Kása Palma is at 6042 Palma St in Poblacion and holds one Michelin star. Its tasting menus run ₱6,500 to ₱8,500. It is in the same neighbourhood as Poblacion's bars, so the evening can carry on afterwards without a ride across the city.

A set menu suits an anniversary for a practical reason. The ordering is done for you, the pace is the kitchen's, and the two of you have nothing to decide for a couple of hours except what to talk about.

Three more tables at the top

Blackbird is a fine dining restaurant on the Michelin Selected list. Look up its address and menu before you commit to it.

Pablo Bistro, at Picasso Boutique, 119 LP Leviste in Salcedo, serves tapas, paella and sangria until midnight and is Michelin Selected. Choose it if your anniversaries are long, talkative dinners with shared plates. It takes big groups, so ask for a table for two away from large parties.

People's Palace, near Greenbelt Park, is a Michelin Selected Thai restaurant with a vegetarian menu. It is the one to choose if either of you does not eat meat.

"₱1,500 and up" is a floor, not a quote. A typical night in the Makati business district runs roughly ₱1,200 to ₱3,500 a head and goes higher at tasting-menu level. If the prices at Kása Palma are per person, dinner for two comes to ₱13,000 to ₱17,000 before drinks.

Booking

For a starred room on a fixed date, start as early as you can and have a second choice ready. When you book:

• Say that it is an anniversary. Kitchens can only do something about it if they know.
• Give dietary needs at the same time, since a set menu is planned in advance.
• Ask the last seating time. Kitchens in the business district close at 10 to 11pm.

After dinner, and staying the night
