Where to Celebrate a Birthday in Manila, by Group Size
Where to celebrate a birthday depends on the headcount more than the area: two people can book almost any table, six need one that shares well, ten need reservations, and fifteen or more need a venue that takes party bookings. In Cubao, the plan for ten is bowling at Paeng's Gateway Bowl, dinner at Vikings Luxury Buffet and a last round at Cubao X Brewery.
For two
A birthday for two is a dinner with a little ceremony.
- Cubao: Vikings Luxury Buffet is an international buffet with a carving station that takes reservations and suits celebrations. Dinner runs from 5:30 PM to 10 PM, at ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head. Follow it with a game at Paeng's Gateway Bowl, open until midnight.
- Makati: Pablo Bistro in Salcedo serves tapas, paella and sangria until midnight, at ₱1,500 and up a head.
- Pasay Bay Area: China Blue by Jereme Leung at the Conrad is Chinese fine dining with bay views, at ₱1,500 and up a head.
For a quieter table for two, the plans in anniversary date ideas in Manila fit a birthday just as well.
For six
Six is one table. Pick food that is made for sharing, and add one thing to do.
- Cubao: Palenque is a regional Filipino food hall, walk in with no booking. Dookki is unlimited cook-it-yourself tteokbokki and Korean hotpot, and Romantic Baboy in Ali Mall is unlimited Korean barbecue. For the activity, Timezone Gateway 2 has private karaoke rooms next to its arcade games and closes with the mall, at 9 PM from Sunday to Thursday and 10 PM on Fridays and Saturdays.
- BGC: Bolero serves Spanish food in large sharing portions. COCHI and Locavore are the Filipino options. Expect ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head at all three.
- Makati: Manam at the Triangle does Filipino comfort food at Ayala Triangle, and People's Palace has a vegetarian menu.
- Pasay Bay Area: Cabalen is a Filipino buffet with kare-kare inside SM MOA.
For ten
At ten, book. Here is the Cubao night on a Saturday.
- 5:30 PM: Paeng's Gateway Bowl, 24 lanes and six billiard tables on Level 3 of Gateway Mall 2. It accepts group and occasion reservations.
- 7:00 PM: Vikings Luxury Buffet on Upper Ground B of the same mall. Reserve.
- 8:30 PM: Cubao X Brewery, an open-air taproom in Cubao Expo, open until midnight. It is about a 12-minute walk.
Bowling costs under ₱500 a head and the buffet ₱500 to ₱1,500, so the night runs up to ₱2,000 a head before drinks. Two swaps keep the same shape: Dampa sa Farmers Market, where the group buys seafood and has it cooked for the table (ask a stall for its cooking hours first); and World Kitchens, a food hall of 15 show kitchens that closes between 3 PM and 5:30 PM from Monday to Thursday.
Elsewhere, Pablo Bistro is a Makati option for ten. By the bay, Crystal Dragon at City of Dreams in Parañaque serves Cantonese family set menus; a festive set for four to six was ₱36,000++, so a group of ten means a bigger quote.
For fifteen or more
The night-out planner builds for parties of up to 15. Past that, it becomes an event. Start with places that take party bookings.
- Timezone Gateway 2 takes party bookings and has private karaoke rooms.
- Paeng's Gateway Bowl accepts group and occasion reservations across its 24 lanes.
- Vikings Luxury Buffet takes reservations.
- Food Exchange Manila is the international buffet at Novotel, at ₱1,500 and up a head, where diners get three hours of free parking. Dinner runs from 6 PM to 10 PM, Monday to Thursday.
- China Blue by Jereme Leung has private rooms.
On a tight budget, bowl and then eat at Food Express, a walk-in food court on Level 3 of Gateway Mall 1. Both cost under ₱500 a head, and a food court needs no booking.
What to settle before sending the invite
- The promo. Ask the restaurant about its current birthday offer and what it requires, and get the conditions in writing.
- The reservation. Bowling lanes and the buffet first, then tell people the time.
- The clock. Mall venues close at 9 PM from Monday to Thursday and on Sunday, and at 10 PM on Friday and Saturday. The bowling alley and the taproom run to midnight.
Plan it by headcount
The night-out planner covers Cubao now and takes a party size; BGC, Makati and the Pasay Bay Area are coming next. Start from the birthday celebration guide.
