Ayala Triangle Gardens: A Christmas Lights Date Plan
Ayala Triangle Gardens puts on a lights show every December, and the park is free to enter, so the date costs only what dinner does. Eat at Manam at the Triangle, which is at the Triangle, and plan the meal around that year's show times so that you walk out of the restaurant and into the lights.
The gardens and the show
Ayala Triangle Gardens is a park in the Makati business district, at Ayala Avenue, Paseo and Makati Avenue. It is known for live performances and for the lights show that returns every December. It is outdoors, and entry is free.
Look up the current schedule first: the start date, the nightly times and how long each run lasts all change the plan. Everything else hangs on them.
The plan, two ways
Dinner, then lights. Book Manam at the Triangle for early evening and finish in time for a show after dark. This is the better order with a first or second date, because the walk through the lights gives the evening an easy, unforced ending.
Lights, then dinner. See an early show and eat afterwards. This suits couples who would rather linger at the table. Mind the clock: kitchens in the business district close at 10 to 11pm, so the table should be booked for 8:30pm at the latest.
Either way, the two stops are in the same place, and that is the strength of the plan. No ride is needed between dinner and the show.
Dinner at the Triangle
Manam at the Triangle serves Filipino comfort food with twists and holds a Michelin Bib Gourmand. It costs ₱500 to ₱1,500 a head and takes big groups, so it also works when the date is two couples or a family visit. With the gardens and the lights free, the evening for two comes to ₱1,000 to ₱3,000, before drinks and the ride home. A night in this district usually runs ₱1,200 to ₱3,500 a head, so this is one of its lower-cost dates.
The show is on for one month of the year, so ask about a reservation well ahead, and have a second dinner in mind.
The second dinner: People's Palace, near Greenbelt Park, is a Michelin Selected Thai restaurant with a vegetarian menu, at ₱1,500 and up a head. Taquería Franco in Salcedo serves French-accented tacos with a Bib Gourmand and is open to midnight on Fridays and Saturdays, which suits a late show. Both mean a ride or a longer walk.
If it rains
The show is outdoors and so is the walk, so have a fallback.
- Stay at the table. Manam at the Triangle is indoors. A long dinner is a fine date on its own.
- See a film. Greenbelt 3 cinemas reopened on 17 December 2025 with six screens, including 4DX and A-Luxe, and Greenbelt 2, 3 and 4 link by a covered second-level walkway. The full plan is in a Greenbelt cinema date.
- Have a drink indoors. The Writers Bar is at Raffles, one of two hotels in the Ayala Avenue and Makati Avenue area that each hold a Michelin Key.
Making it a bigger night
Start earlier. Ayala Museum is open Tuesday to Sunday from 9am to 6pm, with pre-colonial gold and dioramas. A 4pm visit, then the gardens at dusk and dinner, fills the whole evening. See the museum date plan.
Spend more on dinner. For an anniversary in December, Helm holds two Michelin stars and serves seasonal set menus. Dinner there and the lights after would be a serious evening. Look up its address before promising a walk to the gardens. It is covered in romantic restaurants in Makati.
Stay over. The Peninsula Manila and Raffles and Fairmont Makati are both top-price hotels in the Ayala Avenue and Makati Avenue area.
The rest of the year
The lights are December only. The park and its live performances are there in the other eleven months, and the same dinner still works. For other dates tied to the calendar, see Valentine's date ideas in Manila, and for a group booking in the same season, Christmas party venues for a barkada of ten.
The night-out planner covers Cubao now, and Makati is next. The areas page shows what is live.
